The Adaptive Sports Center at Crested Butte Mountain Resort
The Adaptive Sports Center's Administrative and main Programming offices are located at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort in the lower level of the Treasury Building. Our mountain location is home to state-of-the-art adaptive equipment including monoskis, biskis, snowboards and downhill mountain bikes. Additionally, we have three locker rooms with over 200 ski lockers available for seasonal or short-term rental.
In the years since we expanded our main offices in 2010, our ski, snowboard and downhill mountain biking programs have grown to become one of the best in the outdoor recreation industry. With access to incredible terrain and a large selection of adaptive equipment, your adrenaline rush will start the moment you walk through our doors. To top it all off, we have included a lounging area that provides you with a comfortable space to relax after a day of adventuring and get to know your instructor, all of whom are highly trained in the art of making hot cocoa.
The Adaptive Building in the Town of Crested Butte
Thanks to the incredibly generous support of individuals within the Crested Butte community and beyond, we recently unveiled our summer outfitting facility. Located in the heart of downtown Crested Butte, this fully accessible building houses our road and off-road hand-cycles, kayaks, rafts, camping gear and interns. The Adaptive Sports Center is proud to call this place home.
Cochetopa Hideaway Ranch provides the classic Coloradan experience nestled up the Cochetopa Canyon on the banks of the namesake high country stream, Cochetopa Creek. The owner of this piece of paradise, Mike Fahrlander, is the ASC’s Certified Horseman Association Instructor of Riders with Disabilities. Join us for an adventure on horseback, which research suggests can enhance physical and cognitive skills for people with disabilities. Learn the fundamentals and create a one-on-one relationship with a horse at Cochetopa Hideaway Ranch. Transportation provided.
Crested Butte Nordic Center
Crested Butte is known as the Nordic Ski Capital of Colorado with miles of pristine trails right on the edge of town maintained by the Crested Butte Nordic Center. Nordic Skiing, also known as cross-country skiing, is a peaceful way to enjoy the backcountry. The repetitive, bi-lateral motion of Nordic Skiing is found to be therapeutic for individuals suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. The Adaptive Sports Center’s collaboration with the Nordic Center gives participants access to these beautiful trails. Take advantage of ASC’s Nordic sit-skis or snowshoes for a full or half-day lesson with an adaptive Instructor. If you’re seeking more adventure, the Crested Butte Nordic Center also offers ski-in ski-out yurt and hut trips for an evening or overnight stay in the backcountry.
Limitless Terrain (Lake Irwin, Blue Mesa Reservoir, Hartman Rocks and more)
The ASC has permit access to a wide selection of spectacular wilderness to explore. Miles of hiking and biking trails extend from town up every nook and cranny of the valley. Kayak, canoe, sail, swim and camp with us on Lake Irwin, a remote mountain lake, or Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado’s largest body of water. The Gunnison River, a tributary to the Colorado River, serves as our dose of whitewater action and mellow paddling. Hartman Rocks Recreation Area offers endless rock climbing for both beginners and experts as well as stellar mountain biking trails. All of the world-class terrain in our corner of the Rockies is great for day trips to multi-day expeditions. Whether you're a beginning mountain biker, expert mountain hand-cyclist, or just curious about rock climbing, there is adventure waiting here in Crested Butte for you.
