Junior Guide Program - Summer 2010
|
 |
The Junior Guide Program is an opportunity for high school students to volunteer with the Adaptive Sports Center during the summer months. Students will go through a training and team building process, divide their volunteer time between the administrative and program offices, and initiate and present an original project to the staff at the end of their time. In return, the students will gain valuable experiences in philanthropic work, form meaningful relationships with our staff and our clients, and earn community service hours and a letter of recommendation for high school or college.
Students will commit to a two-week time period (10-11 working days and 3-4 off days, depending on the sesson) in the summer, and student activities will coincide with what is happening at the ASC during the two weeks, which could include event set up/clean up and group and/or individual lesson facilitation.
2010 Sessions June 10 & 11 (Mandatory Training) – June 24 (Final Project Presentation) July 8 & 9 (Mandatory Training) – July 22 (Final Project Presentation) July 26 & 27 (Mandatory Training) – August 11 (Final Project Presentation)

Training Students will take part in two days of mandatory training. This will consist of activity training specific to the program needs during the two week time period, team building, education about disabilities, and philanthropy.
Volunteer Days Students will cycle through all aspects of the organization and spend time in each ASC department: programming, logistics, development, and marketing. Programming activities may include the ropes and challenge course, rock climbing, paddling, and mountain biking.
Student Projects Student projects are a chance for the Junior Guide participants to take ownership of their experience at the ASC. Students will be asked to initiate and present an original project idea that they believe will supplement and benefit the organization. Ideas include developing an activity, identifying a potential group and developing a plan to get them to the ASC, creating marketing materials, initiating a fundraiser, etc. Projects will be presented to the ASC management team and feedback will be provided.
