7 Hours of the Banana will be held on Twister again this year. Open to everyone, from the pro skier to the weekend warrior, competitors will ski or ride nonstop laps down Twister to raise money for the Adaptive Sports Center and the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation. In past seasons, top racers completed 50 laps on Twister, while others take it more leisurely and enjoy a great day on the mountain.
How it Works
Individuals: may ski/ride solo for all 7 hours (you may not compete on a team and in the solo category). You may stop/rest as often as you like. Laps will be counted each time you pass through the timing tent at
the staging area.
Tag Team: Don’t want to go it alone? Sign up with 3 of your favorite ski buddies and take on Twister together! Only one member of a tag team can be on course at any time. Tag teams are limited to 4 people and can be comprised of alpine skiers, telemarkers, snowboarders, monoboarders or any combination there of.
Social Teams: can be of any size. One or all team members can be skiing the Twister at any time. Team members may start at any time from the Silver Queen or Twister lift. Laps will be counted when you pass through the timing tent. Team captains are responsible for collecting and submitting team member's waivers and entry fees. Please turn all forms and payment in together.
How it works: By 8:30 a.m. all participants must have located their skis at the designated area a short ways uphill of the starting line. Le Mans start at 8:50 a.m.: participants will run up to their skis and traverse above both chairlifts down to the Silver Queen lift. Competitors must use the dedicated lift line; do not use other lines open to the public (the Silver Queen will open early for the start). Participants will ride the Silver Queen chairlift, traverse over toTwister, ski or snowboard down to the Twister Lift, and repeat! Please remember if you go too fast through the timing tent, your lap will not be counted! If you don't hear a beep--you're going to fast!
**Use CAUTION when approaching intersections...the mountain remains open to the public.**
Aid station: An aid station will be provided at the support tent/lap timing tent.
Helmets: are required!
Youth 15 & Under: Are required to have a parent or responsible adult ski with them.
Pledging: Enlist the assistance of your friends, family and coworkers in your efforts to conquer the “Banana” in support of the Adaptive Sports Center and the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation! People can pledge per lap (i.e. $2.00 per lap) or a one-time ‘flat’ pledge for completing the event. All the money you raise will go to support the missions of the Adaptive Sports Center and the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation.
