June

The Denver Post Ride the Rockies - June 12 - 20
A contingent of handcyclists from the Adaptive Sports Center will once again join thousands of riders taking part in the Denver Post Ride the Rockies cycling tour this summer. The 6-7 day, 532-mile ride starts this year in Grand Junction and ends in Salida. The tour, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, scenic daily rides ranging from 35 to 100 miles on paved roads. ASC spots are sold out!

Community Kids: Hiking and Horses! - June 14 - 16
The ASC’s popular summer day camp for local and visiting children with special needs is back! Join us for one or all three of this summer’s sessions. Crested Butte will be green and lush in mid-June – just perfect for exploring! For three days, we’ll hike at different picturesque spots the area and spend time out at the beautiful Cochetopa Ranch in Gunnison, learning the basics of
riding and caring for horses.

Summer Cycling Sampler - July 9 - 11
There are so many ways to see the sights in and around Crested Butte on wheels, and we’ll try out three of them during this long weekend: cross-country riding, downhill off-roading and classic road-touring. Perfect as a warm-up weekend for Off-Road Handcycling Championships participants, or for anyone looking to try out the range of cycling options available to them, this event is open to both beginner and intermediate riders. Check out prime wildflower season in Crested Butte!

Community Kids: Water! - July 12 - 16

Come play in the water with us! With many high alpine lakes and Colorado’s largest body of water, Blue Mesa Reservoir nearby, opportunities for paddling, swimming and wading abound during our water camp. Bring your swimsuit and your appetite for adventure, and leave the rest up to us!

Community Kids: Rocks & Ropes! - August 16 - 18
Rocks & Ropes is all about fun and challenge! We’ll jump, swing and climb on the ASC’s universally-designed ropes and challenge course on Mt. Crested Butte, and climb up natural rock walls at Hartman Rocks in Gunnison. Get ready for a memorable three days!

Ladies with Abilities: Summer Edition - August 27 - 29
Featuring equal parts outdoor adventure activities, relaxation and social time, this weekend is all about recharging and making new friends! Women of all ages and abilities are invited to join in for what promises to be a memorable and fun-filled weekend in the mountains.

Off-Road Handcycling Championships - August 27 - 29
The competition is high and the camaraderie is phenomenal during this jam-packed weekend of cycling events. Join us for cross-country and downhill races, a trials exhibition, a warm-up ride and more at this signature event which attracts the best handcycling athletes in country. Be sure and join our Facebook group for updates throughout the spring and summer.

***UPDATE - 8/23/2010***
We have revamped the Championships and changed the date. The Championships will become a weekend of supported rides on Crested Butte Mountain and in the backcountry. It will now be held Labor Day Weekend. This event is open to all levels of riders and there are still off-road handcycles available!

Details are following:

Friday, September 3rd, Riders arrive (evening rider get-together)

Saturday, September 4th, 9:30 – 2:30 Ride on Mt. Crested Butte.

This will be a full day of exploration on Mt Crested Butte with the benefit of lift-service!

(Evening or afternoon mixer - food will be provided)

Sunday, September 5th,

Backcountry – Reno Divide, this will be a supported backcountry adventure.

The riders will be shuttled to Reno divide and will then ride Reno Ridge via Dead Man’s Gulch back to Cement Creek Road

It will be about an all-day adventure of fun and challenging single track with views that cannot be missed!

Monday September 6th, Free ride

Pricing

$25 per day (Ride).
$100 for lodging for 3 nights lodging - September 3, 4, and 5

Fall Photo Focus - September 10 - 12
Designed for individuals with cognitive disabilities, this workshop serves as an excellent introduction to nature photography, focusing on lighting, composition and subject. The fall palette is extraordinary, and the instruction by local professional photographer Pat Bittle is top notch. A gallery showing at the end the weekend is not to be missed. Families are encouraged to participate – all ages welcome.

Boulder Bike Clinic - September 11
The ASC and the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation host this popular one-day downhill cycling event in the Boulder foothills every fall, which offers plenty of opportunity for exercise and for leaf-peeping!
