Maggie Brogan

Programming Intern

Where were you born and / or raised?

I was born and raised on Long Island, New York.

What's your favorite quote or something that you live by?

“What are you so scared of?”

How long have you been skiing / snowboarding?

I learned how to ski when I was around 10 years old and went on yearly trips with my family to the Poconos to ski every winter through the end of high school. I haven’t been skiing in about 3 years, but I hope to do some more this winter in CB!

How did you come to work with the Adaptive Sports Center? How long have you lived in Crested Butte?

I was offered a position as a programming intern with Adaptive to complete my final requirement to get my undergraduate degree in Recreational Therapy. I have only lived in Crested Butte for a few weeks, but I’m loving it so far and I’m so excited to spend my summer here!

Why did you choose to work with people with disabilities?

I decided that I wanted to work with people with disabilities when I was in sixth grade because my best friend’s younger brother who has autism took a liking to me.  I started sitting in on his speech lessons to help out. From there, I continued working with individuals with disabilities through my high school’s chapter of Best Buddies and then through Easterseals and volunteer opportunities in college. The relationships I formed with the people I worked with reaffirmed that this is what I wanted to do with my life, and here I am now at Adaptive!

What's your favorite thing about working at the Adaptive Sports Center?

My favorite thing about working at Adaptive is the fact that I get to try so many new things like mountain biking, rafting, rock climbing, and more!

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time I love to listen to and make music, go paddle boarding, hang out with friends, read, and binge watch reality TV shows.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I am a classically trained singer. Also, I can burp on command.
