The Adaptive Sports Center is always in need of reliable volunteers to assist either on the mountain or in the office. Considered an essential part of the Adaptive Sports Center team, we utilize volunteers year-round based on their availability and skill level. 

Summer 2019 Events Pass Volunteer—Application Due April 15

The Events Pass Volunteer works closely with the development department to execute the summer events in exchange for a 2019/2020 CBMR ski pass. You will be involved in all aspects of event logistics including poster distribution, picking up donated items, recruiting and managing volunteers, event setup & cleanup, proof reading of event materials, mailings and assisting in the office where needed on administrative and other special projects. These summer events are critical to Adaptive Sports Center’s ability to fulfill its mission of providing life changing outdoor adventure activities to people with disabilities.


  • All volunteers must agree to a federal background check (every two years)
  • The minimum age to volunteer with the ASC is 16
  • Must be available before and during the two major events
    • Bridges of the Butte Townie Tour, June 29
    • Crested Butte Open, August 4 & 5
  • Strong computer competency: proficiency in Word and Excel 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A willingness to learn
  • Attention to detail
  • Must commit to work 100 hours through the summer season (Mid-May through September 1)

Winter Pass Volunteer - We are no longer accepting pass volunteers at this time. 

As a Winter Pass Volunteer you will team up with our instructors on the hill one day a week (+5 extra days during busy times) in exchange for a CBMR ski pass. You will demo ski drills, lift and load sit skis or act as a as a “ski buddy” for a family member or friend of a participant with a disability. Some participants travel from across the country to visit us, while others are full time local residents. Volunteers with a passion for the outdoors will assist people with disabilities and contribute to their amazing experience with the ASC.

  • A typical volunteer day runs 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Volunteers receive an hour lunch break from 12-1 p.m.
  • Volunteers must be intermediate or advanced skiers or snowboarders.
  • All volunteers must agree to a federal background check (every two years).
  • Volunteers are required to attend trainings in November/December.
  • The minimum age to volunteer with the ASC is 16.

Non Pass Volunteer - Applications due by November 30th.

A non-pass volunteer will have the same responsibilities and experiences as a pass volunteer, but you can make your own schedule. Want to volunteer once a week? Great! Once a month? Perfect! Once a season? We can make it work.

Required trainings

All NEW volunteers are required to attend the following trainings*:

  • Program Foundations
  • Intro to Sit Ski
  • Lifting and Loading - Sit down skis
  • Cognitive Diagnosis & Equipment

New Pass volunteers are required to attend two additional trainings, and returning Pass Volunteers are required to attend three training clinics of their choice.

*Volunteers are required to attend the above ASC trainings. If you are unable to attend please contact us to make arrangements for a make-up.

    • Download and print our Federal Background Check and Waiver. Please sign and email to, send it via snail mail or bring it with you to Happy Hour or Coffee in November. All volunteers are required to pay their Federal Background Check fee ($30).
    • Attend required training clinics.


Important Dates Winter 2018-2019:

Friday, November 9, 8:30-9:30am - Volunteer Coffee Hour Open House!

  • Fill out paperwork, meet us, ask questions, drink coffee!
  • Location: The ASC Program Office in the Lower Level of the Treasury Center at Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Wednesday, November 14, 4:30 - 5:30pm - Volunteer Happy Hour Open House

  • Complete paperwork, meet us, ask questions, have a drink on us!
  • Location: The ASC Program Office in the Lower Level of the Treasury Center at Crested Butte Mountain Resort
