The Kelsey Wright Building

A Therapeutic Adventure Facility FOR EVERYONE

As a leading therapeutic recreation program for people with disabilities, the Adaptive Sports Center pursued a unique opportunity to better serve our participants, impact more people, and secure the program's future by addressing a critical need for a permanent home. In 2019 that dream was realized and the Kelsey Wright Building is now our forever home.

Better Experience

The Kelsey Wright Building meets the needs of our participants with accessible design and architectural elements that lead to increased efficiency. The facility allows us to house participants under the same roof as the Adaptive Sports Center's program office–rather than have them travel from separate locations in town and on the mountain. This lodging provides more interaction between participants and staff, builds a sense of team, and ultimately results in more time spent outside. Additionally, participants will be able to enjoy more social experiences and meaningful interaction with peers in similar situations.

This new home doubled our program capacity and allows us to house participants. Key elements of the facility include:

  • Programming headquarters
  • Participant assessment space
  • Equipment modification and fit-up area
  • Physical therapy and exercise room
  • Ski-in, ski-out access for winter adventures
  • Indoor adaptive climbing wall
  • One floor dedicated to participant lodging
  • Industrial kitchen for food service
  • Meeting area and classroom
  • Administration offices
  • Basement for locker rentals

Impact More People

The Kelsey Wright Building allows us to meet increased demand for our services. Our growth will be carefully managed to ensure that we continue to offer individualized programs with a highly personal touch.

The Kelsey Wright Building was the Adaptive Sports Center’s most important campaign in our 30-year history. With your support, we improved the lives of thousands of individuals for decades to come. This facility is FOR EVERYONE: Participants, staff, volunteers, the community and YOU.

The Adaptive Building (TAB) | Town of Crested Butte

Thanks to the incredibly generous support of individuals within the Crested Butte community and beyond, we opened our summer outfitting facility in the heart of Crested Butte. This fully accessible building houses our road and off-road hand-cycles, kayaks, rafts, camping gear and interns. The Adaptive Sports Center is proud to call this place home.

Limitless Terrain | Lake Irwin, Blue Mesa Reservoir, Hartman Rocks and more

The ASC has permit access to a wide selection of spectacular wilderness. Miles of hiking and biking trails extend from town up every nook and cranny of the valley. Kayak, canoe, paddle board, and camp with us on Lake Irwin, a remote mountain lake, or Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado’s largest body of water. The Gunnison River, a tributary to the Colorado River, serves as our dose of whitewater action and mellow paddling. Hartman Rocks Recreation Area offers endless rock climbing for both beginners and experts as well as stellar mountain biking trails. All of the world-class terrain in our corner of the Rockies is great for day trips to multi-day expeditions. Whether you're a beginning mountain biker, expert off-road hand-cyclist, or just curious about rock climbing, there is adventure waiting in Crested Butte for you.

The Adaptive Sports Center is an equal opportunity service provider and employer and operates under permit from the USDA Forest Service, Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forest.
