The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) offers scholarships for activity fees for individuals in need of financial assistance. All activities provided by the ASC are done at reduced cost but we strive to provide programming for all regardless of financial situation. We also have two available options for partial travel reimbursements with qualifications listed below. We ask that you please pay what you can and only ask for what you need to help our scholarship fund stretch and stay available to everyone who needs it.

Scholarship requests are available through the registration process. Please visit our Registration Portal to request lessons and complete a scholarship application.

For any questions related to general scholarships, please contact Elizabeth at elizabeth@adaptivesports.org.

DISABLING BARRIERS

Thanks to a Disabling Barriers grant, and a generous donor, we are now providing scholarships specifically for travel and accommodations for people with disabilities and their families within the Southern Colorado area (see map below).

Disabling Barriers aims to support youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities from southern Colorado. This grant will help us continue our Access for All rate and support travel and respite for families, a renovated sensory/quiet room, and additional training for our amazing instructors and volunteers.

Included in the award is funding for a limited number of travel stipends for qualifying families. Our hope is that these stipends will help make travel to Crested Butte more affordable by giving $150 per day of programming per family to assist with expenses such as gas, lodging, and meals during your stay in Crested Butte. Our goal is to make the process as simple as possible. We will not ask for receipts but do request signed confirmation of receipt of funds.

To qualify for the Disabling Barriers stipend, a participant must:

  • Be diagnosed with an intellectual and/or developmental disability, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc.
  • Reside in one of the following Colorado counties: Alamosa, Archuleta, Baca, Bent, Chaffee, Cheyenne, Conejos, Costilla, Crowley, Custer, Delta, Dolores, Douglas, Elbert, El Paso, Fremont, Hinsdale, Huerfano, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lake, La Plata, Las Animas, Lincoln, Mesa, Mineral, Montezuma, Montrose, Otero, Ouray, Park, Pitkin, Prowers, Pueblo, Rio Grande, Saguache, San Juan, San Miguel, Teller
  • Must be under the age of 30 and participate in at least one day of programming with the ASC. Stipends will be given to participants or their parents/caregivers following their final day of programming.

DONOR FUNDED PARTIAL TRAVEL STIPENDS

We have additional, but also limited, funds available from a generous donor for travel and accommodations if your family does not qualify for the Disabling Barriers funds.

To qualify for the travel reimbursement, the participant with a diagnosis must be confirmed for at least two full day lessons with the ASC. Family members are welcome to request lessons. As space allows, we encourage family participation.  Please note that we are only able to offer this reimbursement once per family.  We aim to offer this reimbursement to as many unique families in need as our funds allow. See below for the reimbursement stipends per day per household.

If you are driving to Crested Butte, the travel reimbursement includes:

  • $20 per 100 miles driven for fuel reimbursement

  • $40 a day per person for food (up to 4 people, for 5 nights)

  • $100 a night per household (up to 5 nights)

If you are flying to Crested Butte, the travel stipend includes:

  • $40 a day per person for meals (up to 4 people, for 5 nights)

  • $150 per person flying (up to 4 people)

  • $100 a night per household (up to 5 nights)

Scholarship opportunities will open with registration. If you are interested in applying for these scholarships, please fill out your request with your registration when it opens October 22 (returners and community) or October 27 (new/public).
