Scholarships

The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) offers scholarships for individuals in need of financial assistance. All activities provided by the ASC are done at reduced cost but we strive to provide programming for everyone, regardless of financial situation. We ask that you please pay what you can and only ask for what you need to help our scholarship fund stretch and stay available to everyone that needs it.

PURPOSE: The goal of this fund is to provide individuals with a successful outdoor experience that increases self-efficacy. Young adults are given the tools they need to successfully develop new skills such as skiing, snowboarding, biking, and boating while working on communication, developing self-confidence, and spending time with a positive adult role model in a safe and fun environment. Ultimately the skills learned at the ASC will transfer into each adolescent’s life back at home so that they are better equipped to handle life’s journey.

ELIGIBILITY: At-risk youth. Sholarships offered to at-risk youth can be used for all expenses associated with at-risk programming offered by the Adaptive Sports Center for individuals or group participants, including but not limited to lesson or group cost, equipment rentals, and lodging. Exclusions: Airfare.

HISTORY: The Adam Lockard Fund was established in 2010 by Karen and David Lockard, Adam’s parents. Adam was a Western State College student and an ASC volunteer who passed away in a house fire in January 2010. Adam had just began a practicum at the ASC weeks before the accident. He wrote in his application that he was inspired to apply because he “wanted to share the mountains he loved with people who may never have the ability to see them due to a disability.”
