Roger Pepper Adventure Camp 2017

Every once in a while, something unexpected happens at the Adaptive Sports Center. This winter, it was when the entirety of Crested Butte Mountain Resort closed down early due to an overabundance of snow right after the New Year.

What was not unexpected was the group of very enthusiastic teens who joined us for the Roger Pepper Adventure Camp for the 18th winter running. The amount of snow may have caught us off guard, but their excitement to “shred the pow” was less surprising.

Aside from the snow, this amazing camp continues to blow us away with how energetic and resilient the participants are. When asked what they would take home from their experiences during the week, 16 year-old Hunter said “…the fact that the world is not as cruel of a place as it may seem…even though my burns aren’t big and are not easily seen, that everyone in there still accepts me as one of their own…”

We have often found that teenagers can often be the ones that surprise you the most by saying the most unexpected things. As the snow surprised this group, the teens surprised us with their maturity, positivity and a newfound love for the pow-pow. Shred on little powder monkeys, until next time, ski you later.
