Ben Banker

Ben Barker Portrait
  • BS in Therapeutic Recreation from SUNY Cortland

Ben grew up on a family operated dairy farm in Morrisville, New York. He learned to snowboard in backyards and snow-covered fields as a kid, and eventually became a regular at Labrador Mountain in Truxton, NY. Ben studied Therapeutic Recreation at SUNY Cortland and eventually found himself interning at the Adaptive Sports Center in 2012. He fell in love with Adaptive and the town and started working here full time in the fall of 2013. In his free time you can find him biking the local trails, playing disc golf with friends, or spending time with his wife, Deanna and dog, Autumn.

Why did you choose to work with people with disabilities?
I began working with people with disabilities because I enjoy teaching someone in a way that allowed them to discover an ability that they did not know they had.

What's your favorite thing about working at the Adaptive Sports Center?
I enjoy working with this staff because we all are passionate towards a common goal but practice what we preach out of the office.
