Development Intern

Where were you born and / or raised?

I was born and raised in Torrance, CA

What's your favorite quote or something that you live by?

“Someone’s got it worse.”

How long have you been skiing / snowboarding?

I have skied since I was 14 (so about 6 years), however I only had the opportunity to visit a resort once a winter and that’s if we even planned for it that year.

How did you come to work with the Adaptive Sports Center? How long have you lived in Crested Butte?

Heading into my Junior Year summer, I saw an opportunity to gain experience in fields relating to my studies to better prepare myself for when I finally graduate. Thus, from Feb to April, I began a thorough internship search, finding the Adaptive Sports Center on Handshake. As I read and learned more about the organization, I saw not only an opportunity to better myself and learn new and important skills, but a chance to put my efforts and hard work into a good cause. This internship is my first opportunity to live in Crested Butte and I’m loving it.

Why did you choose to work with people with disabilities?

My time at Boston College has been some of the most productive and fun years of my life so far. However, after three years of schooling, I have come to learn about, and grown disgruntled with, the lackluster care my university takes over its students and people with disabilities in general. The university was built on the side of a hill, dividing the campus into three level sections that are separated by over 100 feet of elevation. Because of this people, especially with physical disabilities, are forced to go through a winding path of library, cafeteria, and poorly located ramps in order to even move across the campus. It is this lack of care that has invigorated in me a yearning to do my part for a community that is still often strewn to the side and forgotten.

What's your favorite thing about working at the Adaptive Sports Center?

Undoubtedly, while the work is a fulfilling learning experience, what makes my days at the ASC is meeting and interacting with such an energized, dedicated and fun staff.

What do you do in your free time?

I like to practice guitar and play/listen to music when I have the time. A good Netflix series and reading are also fun ways I pass the time. Now in Crested Butte, I hope to try as many of the wide range of recreational opportunities provided by the ASC and town.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have a cousin who is soon to be a full-fledged astronaut.
